Missionary Portrait

Thumbs Up, Backflips, and a future missionary

Who knew that this missionary photo session would end in thumbs up and back flips!  Ryan surprised us all with his parkour moves after many incredible pictures had been taken of him around the Church of Jesus Christ, Bountiful Temple.  He was full of faith and life last week on a warm September evening.  This future elder’s new suit, shined shoes, and humble smile was all I needed to capture just a few (plus a few more) stunning portraits of a young man ready and willing to dedicate two years of his life to the Lord’s service.  What better and more appropriate place to take missionary photos than a beautiful building dedicated to prayer and reflection.  It was the perfect spot.  All we had to do was take a stroll around the temple grounds and pause a few times to snap a few pictures of Elder P.

Ryan was a good sport, listening and obeying his mother’s and my every command.  “Hold your jacket on this shoulder.  Walk this way.  Carry these scriptures this way, no the other way!  Look to your right, now left, now up, then down.  Hand in your pocket, now out of our pocket….”  It’s amazing he was still smiling in the end, but he was.  This future missionary was on top of the world, even if he was being told when to breathe and not. 🙂

The mission flag photos were a favorite of everyones as well as the ‘thumbs up’ with the setting sun.  (This is Ryan’s signature move so I’m told by his mom and dad.)  I personally love the profile shot of him looking out onto the horizon of the setting sun.  A person really needs to sit atop a mountain, gaze upon the valley below and soak in creation and purpose.  Ryan really is a cool kid, excited about serving the people of the Caribbean and learning the ropes of missionary life.

Wishing you the best on this next adventure in life!
