About
Utah Portrait Photographer
It's nice to meet you!
My love for portrait photography began over 25 years ago with black and white film and my dad’s old Minolta SLR camera. The first photography class I took was at Woods Cross High School. Spending hours in a dark room, I burned, dodged, and developed images that fed my curious and creative photographic soul.
Afterwards, I continued studying photography and advertising at the University of Utah and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Communication and Photography. For the first few years after graduation, I photographed weddings, family portraits, and newborns portraits. Film cameras were my trusty companions until jumping into the digital world in 2005.
During this same time I became a mother to a cute, blue eyed baby boy and my life turned into diaper bags, play dates, goldfish crackers, and nursery rhymes. Through the years, while raising four children and moving eight different times, my photography continued as part-time job and creative outlet for me.
In 2022, I’ve created a new website and brand to showcase my current portrait photography work. I will forever love all things worthy of capturing and calling one’s own.
Fun Fact
The name Melissa derives from the Greek word mélissa, meaning “bee,” which was taken from the word meli, meaning “honey.” Gathering sweet laughter and love through my camera lens, then fine tuning its reflection through my digital dark room, is the hum of my heart and hive.
